#8 Modest Blinker 1:

"if it is a "bird shot" it will score high on PB, which is sad"

I find it sad you consider someone scoring highly sad. :-)
10 Duncan Fauvel   (7/4/2004 9:54:23 AM)
#10 Miguel Lasa:

Miguel it was definitley worth the wait. Its a winner.
11 Miguel Lasa   (7/4/2004 9:56:26 AM)
Thank you very much Duncan for your kind words
12 Ali Pourmand   (7/4/2004 10:22:35 AM)
To # 8. Let's get on the boat and try some "appealing" shots. It's very easy to sit by my computer and type than go out there, get burnt, soaked etc. and actually do what Miguel has done here. Photography always appears easy when you're not behind the camera.

This shot is not the first of its kind but it demonstrates the photographer's artful technique, extreme patience and very keen eyes. (9.5)
13 Hassan (Hassan A)   (7/4/2004 10:24:33 AM)
A perfect momonet you got , well done (9.1)
14 Marc Guyt   (7/4/2004 10:39:11 AM)
Excellent! If possible, a slightly bigger crop that would see more of the splash of waterdrops could add more to the scene, but then again... the picture is great!

Miguel, Dynomite, well done, your hard work paid off, one suggestion which does not effect the score I am giving, it pops even more on a black page. Dog 9.5
18 Corry   (7/4/2004 11:01:44 AM)
Outstanding! I can imagine that this was very hard work! Don't worry about the modest blinker, he is nothing but jeallous.
19 Ruud (they just ain't worth it)   (7/4/2004 11:03:52 AM)

24 Sergei Samus (Serega to friends)     (7/4/2004 11:45:45 AM)
#8 Modest Blinker 1: I think I should have added a 'jealous blinker' option, to me this is exactly who you are, my dear.

Miguel, this is a breath-taking shot, off my hat to you.
25 Pascal Meerpoel   (7/4/2004 12:06:04 PM)
I agree with Sergei,
if every body would make such amazing shots, one could think bird-photography is just a five finger exercise, which is not. Modest blinkers and jealous blinkers are often the same... (score 10)
26 Yovanny Montoya   (7/4/2004 12:17:41 PM)

32 Cheryl Surry   (7/4/2004 1:49:44 PM)
Your patience paid off. I was hoping to see a captive fish eagle 'feeding' this week. It didn't happen, but seeing this shot makes up for it.
33 DanF (Dan Fleming)   (7/4/2004 1:58:25 PM)
Outstanding shot Miguel! Hats off to you!!!
34 Greg (Greg Governale)   (7/4/2004 2:23:53 PM)
One of the better images I have seen in a long time. An image to be proud of !!!! It deserves space on the wall of any photographer who wants to be a notch above the rest. Wonderful comp. Great sharpness and a near perfect moment!! I own a wide format printer....and I know this would look great printed really large. 24 in. by 36 in. Thanks for sharing this wonderful image!
Greg Governale

Excellent capture Miguel. It's all been said, Superb. Congratulations.
38 iwasfixin2   (7/4/2004 4:20:21 PM)
One more 'Bravo' isn't going to make much difference on this superb capture, but I'm going to do it anyhow. Bravo!
39 dneilson (Dolores Neilson)   (7/4/2004 4:45:07 PM)
MASTERFULLY DONE!! What tremendous skill this takes! C'mon National Geographic...give him a call!
40 archera (Roland DiSabatino)   (7/4/2004 4:59:49 PM)
Miguel ... Since many can't do this well just shooting a stationary flower with a stationary insect on it, I'll say Triple Bravo to you, and for sure the effort was worth it. Great timing, great shot. :O)
41 joe bellantoni   (7/4/2004 5:16:31 PM)
Miguel this is surely a great image and a lot of the bird haters should take note of the greatness of this image. Bill said it best...world class image. You would think that more people would ask you questions on this shot. I have one: Do you think you could have caught this image if you were not using the Mark II? If you do think so....how much easier was it with this camera?
Again...WELL DONE!

#25 Sergei Samus: Thank You

43 Miguel Lasa   (7/4/2004 5:34:39 PM)
Thank you very much to all blinkers for your kind comments/votes in the photo.
Joe, the Mark II was a great help during the 6 days. Still more difficult than I thought because the action happends in a fraction of a sec and with the heavy ef500 handheld in the boat is really hard to keep the bird in focus with the waves.80 % of all my shots were blurred or with the wings cut due to the bad sea and worse weather.
44 joe bellantoni   (7/4/2004 5:37:01 PM)
#44 Miguel Lasa: But do you think you could have gotten it without this camera?
45 Jonathan Wise   (7/4/2004 5:44:02 PM)
Sure is all of the above, well done.
46 Miguel Lasa   (7/4/2004 5:53:29 PM)
Joe, I think with the 10D and a bit of luck I could have gotten something similar, but you need more luck and choose your shot more precisely.
47 LindaY (Linda Y)   (7/4/2004 6:05:00 PM)
Miguel, you took this from a BOAT??? The shot is stunning and would have been a great accomplishment even to have been done from dry land, but getting a shot with this level of detail and this perfect a pose from a boat is nothing short of amazing to me. My hat goes off to you! Excellent!
48 Miguel Lasa   (7/4/2004 6:07:37 PM)

49 Fiona Hoskin   (7/4/2004 7:20:56 PM)

52 Tim Fry   (7/4/2004 8:30:27 PM)
I really never even thought about photographing birds before I joined photoblink but it's shots like this that inspire one to try.
53 mrgetz (Thinkyouneek )   (7/4/2004 8:48:26 PM)
Nobody deserves a 10.
54 LindaY (Linda Y)   (7/4/2004 9:21:19 PM)
Miguel, I just saw your reply on how much the boat was moving. Do you have any tips you would be willing to give us on how your were able to accomplish this? The reason why I ask is that I will be up in Alaska in about 60 days and one of my planned activities is going into Resurrection Bay/Kenai Fjords NP. There are lots of marvelous birds there including 2 species of puffins. The only way to see them and photograph them is in a boat as the area is remote and covered with glaciers.
55 Deb   (7/4/2004 10:11:26 PM)
Now, THAT's a CATCH! Excellent work! Bravo!
56 Oksana P.   (7/4/2004 10:36:29 PM)

Whatever it is, I can't wait. This almost ranks up there with Steve Bloom's bald eagles fighting over Alaska !!! (www.stevebloom.com). Fantstic shot.
71 Arno Hollander (Sniper 1)   (7/5/2004 3:42:36 PM)

80 ChristopherG   (7/8/2004 1:43:48 AM)
Everyone has such good things to say, how 'bout we look at the negative - the 27th drop on the right is slightly more out of focus than the 24th. lol
Nothing negative here, INcredible. What makes it more incredible are the conditions in which this shot was taken - something that can't truly be appreciated unless you've done it (and I have not). All that time, and it comes down to fraction of a second - and you did it. I haven't been around this site a long time, but I think that when Sergei leaves a comment, you know you did good.
Congratulations on this awesome shot.
81 Ivan (Ivan Miksik)   (7/8/2004 1:48:35 AM)
