4 Rudi Van Gestel   (4/5/2005 11:45:00 AM)
I can sit here for hours, to find some decent words to describe this one, Janet!
Somewhere it reminds me of old photography! Romantism above all!
I'm not going to argue some technical aspects, as I feel not to have the right to do this here! You make me just feeling humble!.... (10)
(The least I can do - more words would be such a waste!)
Regards! Rudi

Beautiful, elegant and timeless, Janet. I could stare at this for hours just enjoying the beauty. I wish I could do any kind of photo half as well as this one is done. I am not voting this a 10, because every time that I think one of your photos is perfect, then you post one that is even better, so a 9.8 from me.

23 Mathew Eis   (4/5/2005 5:08:58 PM)
Personally, I would have liked to see the background a little softer; I think that now it is just slightly distracting. Other than that, I think it's great. Another beautiful shot!
24 Hazel   (4/5/2005 5:31:05 PM)
Could be a painting. So romantic and beautiful! Everything works here, the clothing, lighting, colors. Well done!

28 Steve Taylor   (4/5/2005 7:52:53 PM)
Beautiful. A very moving image.I perfer looking at it with the black bg.
29 joe bellantoni   (4/5/2005 7:57:24 PM)
Janet I actually like the other image of this little girl better. Don't get me wrong this is great but the bg is a little too pronounced and the other was so perfect. You have a way to make the sense of being there with that natural light. the pose is perfect the tones and softness too.
30 Rick X (Rick Xavier)   (4/5/2005 9:32:15 PM)

31 Terry Forrest (Teresa Forrest)   (4/5/2005 9:50:12 PM)
It has always been a great pleasure to look at your portraiture work, Janet, from the very first time some years ago when I first saw one of yours up to this one. If anything, you seem to have become better through the years. I'd have to go back to look at the previous one of this re the background, but as far as the space is concerned, I don't see the necessity to have any more than what you have now.
32 gerald johnson   (4/5/2005 10:12:15 PM)
Janet, I have just discovered your work as of recently, I will be looking for more. Outstanding...................gerald

Might I ask for the reasoning for the yellow filter? Have never used any filters and not sure the uses for all of them as of yet.

Very romantic and precious.

54 Janet Jonas   (4/7/2005 11:21:58 AM)
thank you all so much for commenting on "God Bless" I was amazed that it was received so well. Sometimes what I see in an image is contrary to what others see. Rudi is right in that I tend to romanticize my images. Maybe that stems from growing up with boys. Had to be tough all the time. I also love the works of Julia Margaret Cameron and the window light work of Veermer's paintings. I love to keep things simple as well. I think you can tell a story with very simple compositions. I use shallow dof a great deal. I guess you could say it is my way of painting with light. I have no talent to paint so I feel this is the closest way I can mimic painting. I neglected to say what camera I used. It is the Nikon D1x. Took this right before I got my D2X. Darn! Kris's question about the yellow filter is quite simple, it added a soft yellow toning to the image that kind of mimicks some of the turn of the century colorings of images. Hannah my little model is very cooperative for about ten minutes and then I have to bribe her with treats. this image was used on a card for her grandfather who just had cancer surgery. He loved it and it created quite a little buzz in his hospital room. The nurses were coming to see it from other floors. It made grandpa's time in the hospital a little more bearable. Anyway thank you all so much for the lovely comments. They are much appreciated.
55 Janet Jonas   (4/7/2005 11:27:35 AM)
I forgot to add that it is a full frame shot. I have a very bad habit of making my shots to tight. I guess it comes from thinking in printing it, every pixel counts for quality in the image. Hopefully I can loosen up so to speak in the future. :0)
56 Wayne Morgan (( ;-)   (4/7/2005 9:44:47 PM)
I don't feel that it is to tight. It is an excellent image and worth a good study. Beautiful!
