This is a fantastic image. Emotive on first view. The colors are exceptional as is the exposure. Composition really doesn't get much better than this.

13 robinschooley (Robin Schooley)   (7/10/2005 1:04:27 PM)
The contrast of the gold turban against the blue sky is an immediate attention grabber. Then you are drawn immediately to his eyes. And shooting at a slight downward angle makes him look even more imposing. An excellent piece of work.
14 gdanger (George Dangerfield)   (7/10/2005 1:25:52 PM)

Help, he 's just jumping out of my screen!!!
How did you feel when you took this!
Wonder if he was just posing, or expected some real danger, you included!
Nevertheless, technically: thumbs up!!!
18 Ivan (Ivan Miksik)   (7/10/2005 2:22:09 PM)

Yes Very very well capture picture
20 Greg (Greg Governale)   (7/10/2005 3:05:22 PM)
The colors are what makes this work IMO. The long shadows make me believe this was taken early or late in the day. With a 20mm lens the soldier obviously knew you were there. I would expect to be able to capture an image of a cooperative subject. What makes this special is the very pleasing color combinations. Greg Governale

Hugely powerful image Sergio. Has to be one of thebet of yours I have seen. It is extremely emotive and stirs up negative feelings and yet it is such a perfect image. The colours in the BG are wonderful and the soldier's eyes and face are really beautiful. Great pose too. Fantastic!

#42 (marco-On). Thank you for your low scores to all my best photos. As you have the same vice with the best photos of others Photoblinkers (I checked), I am sure that these raids are the only function and undoubtedly the most suitable for you on this site. Now I am forced to read your provocative comment too. And fortunately the votes are not anonymous.
46 julie Williams   (7/11/2005 2:02:12 PM)
wow - clarity, composition and colour all perfect
47 CherylB (I only lie when I do not like your pic)   (7/11/2005 2:22:58 PM)
love all the colors but I do wish to see all of the rifle.
48 Les McLean (**** ))   (7/11/2005 3:38:23 PM)
A strong powerful image, deserving all the above accolades.
A couple of niggles (only minor), the stock of his gun is a little soft, although you used a relatively narrow DOF, I'd have thought it would have been in focus. I'd also consider cloning this , I'm not sure it adds anything to the image.
49 archera (Roland DiSabatino)   (7/11/2005 7:07:58 PM)
A close consideration makes me think how even a slender fellow, becames as the equal to a man with the power of a rifle. It is a very powerful photo, Sergio and I too like the POV.
50 joe bellantoni   (7/11/2005 9:33:15 PM)
Somehow this looks very familiar...maybe a different crop? I thought I voted for this already.
51 Sergio Pessolano   (7/12/2005 1:45:57 AM)
#50 Joe: sorry, this isn't a crop but a quite different image (you can easily compare the images). I asked to the soldier to pose for me for many shots with different lens too.
52 John More   (7/12/2005 6:25:36 PM)
excellent.. very well done
53 Yosi Helmann   (7/13/2005 7:54:21 AM)
If i may also say my little impression from this very good photographic vew, picture.
When i'm looking at this picture the thing that trap my eyes on the first time is the star medal on the doldier's chest, than i looked on his face and on his young hands and finly i realized that not a real soldier is on this picture but a teen boy with uniforms.....The contrast between his young and soft face and his all perform is the main thing in this great picture. I give you 9.9
54 Sergio Pessolano   (7/13/2005 12:51:52 PM)
Thank you, Yosi. Exactly: he his a "soldier" of the Tuareg rebel army of the Niger, as I already explained for a similar shot of the previous stream.
