detailsI found this incredible vantage point that allowed me to overlook the crashing surf at nearly eye-level. The inherent danger, of course, was that I was risking a lot in camera equipment to take the shot. A huge wave could swamp me at any time. I kept looking over my shoulder, ready to flee the rock should the big one roll in. During my intervals on the rock I fired off rapid-bursts totalling around 150 shots in 10 minutes as the sun sank beneath the horizon illuminating the crashing waves. Of all those images only one was exactly what I was looking for, as an explosion echoed off the far rocks. I used only a polarizer to cut the coastal haze and water glare and shot nearly every image at 1/4 seconds so the crashing waves had maximum visual impact Logicor tumescent arthroplastic figured phototype malonanilic.

Wow Marc you sure did a good job catching the ocean's fury. This is quite beautiful. It's a perspective that you don't see much and captured very well.

The interplay of the light and crashing waves is brilliant.

Nice job.

magic

I want this BIG. It is spectacular, the light is to die for and the effect explosive. You have said you have a problem with compression - I'm sure someone here can help you with that so you can do these wonderful shots justice.
4 Marc Adamus   (9/8/2005 7:48:44 PM)
The compression problem I've mentioned refers mostly to my detailed forest shots. Some of which are 1mb at 850x600(high level JPEG) due to all the information! None will be able to be posted here. This image should have been posted larger, so I re-uploaded it.

This is really an impressive shot, I like it very much. And thanks for sharing the story behind it too, I'm sure it will serve as inspiration to many pb-ers. :)

Marc,

Fantastic image. Might be the best seascape I have seen this year. Worth the risk, I would say so. A visual treat that should be 40x 60 on somebody's wall.

Take care

Mike

Marc: fantastic view...I can't believ the amount of nice water you got at 1/4 second. What film was this?
26 Marc Adamus   (9/9/2005 11:57:22 AM)
The usual Joe. Velvia 50. I shot it at 50 as I do when lots of water or snow is involved. Those waves were absolutely huge and the spray really hung up in the air. I may have shot some images at 1/8 or 1/2, but I'm fairly certin this was 1/4.
27 Rudi Van Gestel   (9/9/2005 12:43:42 PM)
Wow man, you did a very nice job on this one!!!
Colours, toning, action...!!!
28 Greg (Greg Governale)   (9/9/2005 1:45:31 PM)
A very powerfull image, very nice moment. Parts of the image are very warm in color and parts of the image have a very cool tone. The film you have used exaggerates the effect. It looks slightly unnatural but still very pleasing. Greg Governale
29 Marc Adamus   (9/9/2005 1:51:07 PM)
Yes, it's a matter of shadow and highlight here. Velvia went typically blue in the shadows under clear skies and very warm where it was illuminated in the setting sun. I really love the effect. I may do a B&W conversion at some point and see what happens.
