You're absolutely right about this being ballet. What a graceful moment you have captured! Well worth a 10.
2 Martynas   (10/20/2005 4:06:32 AM)
worth a 10.
3 M.Bolding   (10/20/2005 4:06:56 AM)
Excellent, great timing (or pick of the burst). Colors are very rich and nice expression of the athlete, next time ask her not to press her lips so tight :)

One of the best sports shots I have seen anywhere. You gotta love the 300mm f/2.8 L. Superb work.
9 CherylB (I only lie when I do not like your pic)   (10/20/2005 6:53:54 AM)
my first thought before reading anything was " like a ballerina". no nits
10 Gianluca Posella   (10/20/2005 7:01:03 AM)

Fantastic shot.
12 Kenn Reay   (10/20/2005 7:36:06 AM)
Superb capture. It's got it all. The arms and fingertips gracefully extended, and the legs being crossed add to the composition. Great work. Kenn
13 Reidar   (10/20/2005 8:02:40 AM)
Agree with Bill about the sport shot. Stunning! Just one nit...the hot red spot upper right.

Great shot, Senn!
The blurring behind the action might have been done a little more with care, imho!
nevertheless, a striking jumping shot, catched on the right moment!!!

The question is ...did she make it?

Fanstatic move...good stop ...agree with Rudi as I see areas where you missed it on the blur

33 Andy P. (No Friends - No Blinks)   (10/20/2005 11:14:30 PM)
ok I don't mean to rain on anyones parade but lets think for a second. A static pole to focus on, lots of people doing this to practive exposure, and Canon 1D Mk II. Thats 8 frames a second people!

In this situation you get to almost point and shoot simplicity, seriously. Sports photography in lower light, with worse equipment, and with moving subjects (i.e no static object to focus on) is much more difficult. I shot plenty of pics like this when working for the yearbook, cept I was using a fuji S7000, which just means I had to try longer. No timing really... 8 fps can make you a very lucky person.

That being said it is an excellent picture, but no more than a 9 for me. I considered davids earlier series of extreme motocycles much more difficult.

Best pic I've seen here in a long time. Has it all. Not just a technically good image, but has the soul that MOST work here lacks.
39 Hassan (Hassan A)   (10/21/2005 5:14:18 AM)
perfect really
40 CherylB (I only lie when I do not like your pic)   (10/21/2005 6:43:53 AM)
#33 Andy P.(No Friends - No Blinks): and half the people would get a sharp pole and a blurry person, put your umbrella away before you poke your eye out.
41 MJFerron   (10/21/2005 6:47:39 AM)
#33 Andy P. You have a point when it comes to a pro cameras like the 1D2 making it easier to capture action. But this photo has a lot more than just action. We have a graceful pose, beautiful light and closed eye expression that tells me faith and and experience will take over from this point on to complete the jump. Oh and as #38 Marty said. Soul.
42 DPS (David Stevenson)   (10/21/2005 7:11:09 AM)

~my God, your images are quite possibly the best in the top 3, of images/authors I have seen. Top notch photograph here, simply eye-catching, elegant, color, INCREDIBLY well executed, the harsh sunlight, for me, accentuates the mood/atmosphere/time of day..10~

58 Borris (Borris Sorrow)   (11/30/2005 1:52:25 PM)
The shot is fairly cliche. Seen it a million times in many sports magazines. It's very well done though, and I like it.
59 dido   (11/30/2005 11:14:28 PM)
I don't mean to cause no sorrow, no.58, but this sort of "cliche" I appreciate most any day.
60 Rosario   (12/16/2005 7:32:42 PM)
One of the best sport shot i ve seen, the expression of the athlete is superb and the timing is perfect.

64 Kris Bass (peter pan is so real ))   (4/10/2006 8:11:35 PM)
65 bert   (4/23/2006 3:39:39 PM)
lovely shot, expression, shape and light make this a winner.
BUT, at 8 frames per second a runner and in this case a jumper can move quite a distance in 1/8 sec.
very well done Bert
66 Sunny   (4/25/2006 2:39:37 AM)
she looks at peace....well shot.
