~spring has sprung, hasn't it Robin...wonderful macro, great color, timing with the shutter and composition, one of your finest shots IMO Robin, and that's coming from someone who rarely takes to nature shots. The blur of the bg/dof is xlnt~

This is the way I love to see butterfly photos, although you see less lovely detail in the wings this way, they don't look like a biology project pinned to a board, well done, nice detail, color and can even see it feeding. Dog BTW I guess I am a black BG nut case but check it out that way and tell me if it does not accentuate the photo. 9.2

8 randall (more love - less hate)   (4/27/2004 10:24:44 PM)
Very beautiful capture Robin! My only nit is that I would have smoothed the bg iso noise all the way to the wings of the butterfly, etc.

Very nice. DSLRs are great, aren't they? How much did you crop this? I think it's a little too tight, especially on the right. I don't mind the OOF FG. Good job.

Although as a personal thing, I'm not that crazy about blurred foreground, I think it's a little more difficult to get a butterfly shot without blurred foreground than it is to get a bird shot without blurred foregroound, so I take a degree of difficulty into consideration. Lovely colors with the flower, butterfly and especially the background. The shapes in the background make me think of the wings of a butterfly, so I find it particularly complimentary to your photo of this butterfly. (8.75)

33 Rick Coleman   (8/30/2004 8:35:48 PM)
Very nice image. I agree with #21 Terry about the blurred foregound, but it's a only a minor issue in this photo. The colors and detail are excellent. I wish for maybe just a tad more space in front of the butterfly. Overall, a beautiful shot!
