I knew there was a hawks nest in the area and I kept looking in the trees for it. All of a sudden this hawk comes swooping down and nails lunch for the baby. Incredable sight these birds have!

Congrats on your capture here. I have to tell you this one freaked out my kids. That looks just like our little lizard. :) I haven''t seen them run so quickly to check their tank.
11 ckldybr (A perfect photo is just a click away)   (5/2/2004 11:13:40 PM)
Joe this is excellent. I almost feel bad for the poor lizard. You had to be quick to get this. Take care. Barb.
12 John White   (5/2/2004 11:16:48 PM)

15 ChristopherG   (5/2/2004 11:42:26 PM)
Joe, while this shot is not one of your best technically, (and given the time you probably had to react, it is understandable) - the moment you captured more than makes up for the little "imperfections". I'm very impressed considering this was handheld, and with the 1.4 times extender. Excellent capture. 9.4
16 Phil Hilden   (5/3/2004 12:15:18 AM)
Incredible image, Joe. There are no "imperfections." Given how fast you had to react, it's downright perfect and totally worthy of a score of -10- Congrats. -PH
17 April (Cindy Metzger)   (5/3/2004 12:37:52 AM)

20 Les McLean (**** ))   (5/3/2004 3:14:59 AM)
This is good Joe, there is a slight blurring (due to hand held no doubt), but given the difficulties, particularly the speed in which you need to shoot, it becomes insignificant.
First class work.
21 Reidar   (5/3/2004 4:19:38 AM)

This is startling. Did she sign the model release :) I have to look twice to see the color and lighting is fantastic. All around top of the line. It is a lot of work to be in the right place at the right time, and well worth it.

79 dneilson (Dolores Neilson)   (6/14/2004 10:34:43 PM)
Good grief, Joe! I think in addition to your skill as a photographer, a guardian angel walks beside you and brings you a subject that the master has created so you can attempt to do it justice with the lens. And you nail it each time!
80 Huub Linthorst   (6/18/2004 3:22:02 PM)
Just WOOOWW Joe! Regards, Huub
81 Terry Forrest (Teresa Forrest)   (6/26/2004 11:58:24 PM)
Handheld and manual focus? Excellent! To those who said too bad it wasn't tack sharp, the extremely slight difference I see re that (given my problem sight) seems so minute, that to me it hardly seems worth mentioning and I wonder why they even did. Super composition, great behavioral shot, great colors and outstanding non-distracting background. Totally deserving in my opinion of the double POTD for both success and value. (9.75)
82 Terry Forrest (Teresa Forrest)   (6/26/2004 11:59:54 PM)
Congratulations on POTW and POTM as well!!
