PLEASE tell me what the secrets of flash in an image like this are?

Another beauty, Mark! Would love a touch more DOF. And I really don't think it is fair that you should that marvelous lighthouse AND trained birds and bugs in your yard! Next thing you know you'll be competing with Ann Cook, too! :-) And tell Robin your flash secrets, like having batteries in the unit and such! :-)

Thanks everyone for the nice comments - the flash is pretty straight forward TTL, but I do build my own "butterfly brackets" to hold it. Though it's a little out of date, this page on my site goes into detail about in the field insect photography: http://www.markcassino.com/essays/insectphoto.htm

I recently went to "Selby Gardens" on the west coast of Florida and they had several large photos of bees on flowers there and yours knocks the socks off theirs. It would be even lovelier if the close petals were in focus. I might be tempted to crop the bottom just a tad.

Very nice colors, clarity, and composition. If it were mine, I would try to clean up the BG a bit.
