title Big Red

detailsTrying to get the setting moon behind the Lake Michigan lighthouses, I headed out to Holland, MI twice last week and visited “Big Red”. Tuesday morning the moon was like a big pizza pie on the horizon – but it set at 5:20 a.m. and while I admired it, it was too dark for a shot (still an hour before sunrise.) This shot is from Wednesday morning right at sunrise. The moon was big and glorious just to the right of the lighthouse – if not for the clouds over the lake you could see it :-)But the pre-dawn twilight always makes for nice light. Thanks Claudia - though obviously the person who voted a 6 right before or after you disagreed - LOL! The the JPG compression really takes the edge off the color and sharpness here - something about the blue and red I guess. So for the curious - here's a compressed TIFF (@ 400K not a small download, but even minimal JPG compression takes the edge off the railing etc.)

Mark fantastic colors and light. If I were you I would do a composite exposure. One of just the moon and then one long exposure for the lighthouse. Then combine the two in PS. YOu could even take any shot of the moon and combine it to this photo. Anyway this is stunning!
